Reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin has a team of eight coaches to support her development and performance. Team Japan travels with more than 20 coaches and support staff to World Championships. Badminton coaches, data analyst, athletic trainers, nutritionists - just to name a few roles. Being world class means to use every possible ethical ressource to enhance and sustain performance on the one side, on the other - the game - side the Badminton performance bar has never been higher and potential performance gains become smaller and smaller. To create the potential for our juniors to move towards World Class Badminton we as coaches have to equip our players with all necessary tools they need to eventually developed into top players. With the limited resources in number of talents, number of training hours and other developmental factors, we as coaches need to enhance the speed and quality of learning in our single training sessions - not only to develop technically and tactically good players, but also to have them use their potential when it matters: in high pressure environments.
In this session „Learning That Matters 3“ key facts and take homes of different approaches of motor learning assigned to different Badminton schools or nations and linked to on-court performance are summarized in a short recap from „Learning That Matters 1 & 2“ and will be build up into a presentation of long-term developing model for Badminton youth training from a motor learning perspective. Participants will learn how to integrated different learning content in fundamental, footwork and stroke technique into a pathway with the use of explicit and implicit approaches.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Learning Outcomes: short re-cap of key takes homes of Part One / Two: understanding of explicit / implicit training techniques, their advantages and practical expamples; understanding of structuring learning content with a mix of explicit and implicit teaching techniques into a pathway / LTD concept; being able to implement training content along the pathway U9-U13
 

 

Docent: Ruhnow Diemo

Diemo Ruhnow (MSc Sports Coaching, Dipl.Trainer, BSc Mathematics) is working as Head National Coach Doubles/Mixed with Germany’s top Badminton athletes. Before he was named Head Coach, he was working from 2013-2016 with as National Coach for the Women’s Double where he secured the first qualification for a German women’s double for the Olympic games since 2004. Before his time in the Elite setting, he work as National Junior Coach for Austria and more then 10 years as Regional Coach in Hamburg, where his athletes not only won medals at the national and European stage, but also Germany’s first ever medal at the World Junior Championships. In 2010 he was awarded Hamburgs Coach of Year title for his contributions to Hamburg Youth Performance sports. Besides his qualification in Badminton he holds numerous qualifications in the Strength & Conditioning area. In his free time he is lecturing internationally about Badminton and Strength & Conditioning. He has a special interest in the science part of high performance sports.
