Terms and conditions for mountain bike hire

Proof of identity as a deposit

When collecting the mountain bike(s), you must leave at least one form of proof of identity as a deposit (e.g. a driving licence).

Protective equipment

Wearing a helmet is compulsory. Anyone who does not have their own helmet will be provided with one free of charge.

Maintenance and inspection

Before setting off, the hirer must check the condition of the bike themselves. Pay particular attention to the basic functions, such as the brakes and gear systems.

Liability for damage

The hirer is responsible for any damage caused during the hire period, unless it is due to normal wear and tear.

Traffic rules and behaviour

You are in a nature reserve where other visitors are present, such as children, joggers and cyclists. Show respect, adjust your speed in busy areas and always stay on the marked mountain bike trails.

Returning the bike

You must return the bike at the agreed time. If you need to deviate from this, please give notice in good time.

The hirer must clean the bike before returning it. A garden hose and brushes are available at the shed where you collected the bikes. The site warden will check the condition of the bike upon return and will then return your ID.

Additional charges may apply for bikes returned in a dirty condition or showing damage not caused by normal wear and tear.

Insurance

Sport Vlaanderen does not provide insurance against personal injury or theft.

Theft prevention

Ideally, do not leave the bike unattended. If you do have to, use a sturdy lock. Don’t have a lock? We’ll be happy to provide one.
