Find out what it’s like to be a real track cyclist

Cycling enthusiasts can, since February 2006, make use of the Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx. On the fixed covered cycling track and the BMX circuit, they can try to match themselves with the greatest cycling champion of all time.

To achieve and fund Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx, a number of parties joined force: Vlaamse Gemeenschap and Sport Vlaanderen, Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, Stad Gent, Belgian Cycling and Cycling Vlaanderen. Nationale Loterij also supported the initiative.

The wooden cycling track in Vlaams Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx is 250 metres long and is internationally approved. The area in the centre (63 metres by 33 metres) can be used by a wide range of sports: badminton, handball, volleyball and korfball. There is a power gym for top athletes. There are 440 seats.

In addition to the covered cycling track, a 375 metres BMX track has also been constructed. The BMX circuit consists of four stretches in dolomite and 3 curves in concrete cobbles and there is a start hill with fully automatic starting gates.

There is also a storage place for bicycles and a sprinkler installation. The outdoor circuit is illuminated. The BMX circuit is open to both competition cyclists and recreational cyclists/beginners.
